Surrender a Pet
Giving up a pet is a heart-wrenching decision, but sometimes there is no other option. Safe Place for Pets provides peace of mind to terminally ill pet owners by finding new forever homes for their beloved pets. We are committed to our mission and take pride in ethically caring for these beloved pets. For over 20 years, we’ve served our community by successfully caring for and placing cats, dogs, birds, fish, and rabbits in loving, forever homes.
We also strive to keep pets with their beloved owners for as long as possible while maintaining the pet’s quality of life. Once placed in our care, we provide pets with affection, daily wellness care, food, shelter, and veterinary care while we work to find their new forever homes.
The Process of Surrendering Your Pet
We are a nonprofit pet placement organization that rehomes pets of terminally ill people, and we guarantee a safe-haven for pets placed in our care. Prior to being accepted into our program, we assess all pets to ensure they are healthy and behaviorally sound.
To prevent the spread of common diseases and to ensure pets are healthy for their new homes, we ask those who are surrendering pets to make sure each pet:
Is up-to-date on vaccines
Has a current wellness exam
Is spayed/neutered
Has dental issues addressed
Your Pet’s Surrender Fee
The cost to care for and re-home pets can be quite substantial depending on the age and health of a pet. The average cost of veterinary care is between $250-$300 per pet. Safe Place for Pets relies solely on donations for the care that we provide, which is why we ask for a non-refundable surrender fee of $25 per animal to help offset some of this cost.
Contact Us

Safe Place for Pets reserves the right to refuse admittance of any pet where we observe severe health and/or behavioral issues or in cases that do not meet our mission criteria. Pets are not euthanized except for severe health or behavioral issues and/or quality of life issues that arise while the pet is in our care.
